This project is scheduled for launch
Launch date: Wednesday, November 18, 2026 at 08:00 AM UTC

Snapkin is a calorie tracker you use by photographing your plate. There is no scale to weigh with, no barcode to scan and no database to search. Take one photo per meal. Snapkin works out what is on the plate, how many calories it has, and how much protein you have had today.
Where it is not sure, it asks one question about whatever would change the number most. It writes the answer down as one plain sentence you can read, edit or delete, so it asks less about your kitchen every week.
It runs on iPhone and Android in 10 languages, and costs €9.99 a month or €99.99 a year after a 3-day free trial. No ads, no analytics, no tracking. Made by Robot Studios IT Consultancy BV, an independent software company in Belgium.
Comments will be available once the project is launched.
Snapkin is a calorie and protein tracker that works by photographing your plate. There is no scale to weigh food on, no barcode to scan and no database to search through. You take one photo per meal, and Snapkin works out what is on the plate, how many calories it contains, and how much protein you have had that day.
Where the photo leaves something unclear, Snapkin asks a single question about whatever would change the number most — for example, whether a dish was pan-fried or baked. Your answer is written down as one plain sentence you can read, edit or delete, so the app asks less about your kitchen every week.

Point the phone at the plate and the meal is logged before you pick up your fork. Snapkin names what is on the plate, estimates portion sizes from the plate and nearby cutlery, and counts the cooking fat and sauce most trackers miss.
When a single detail would change the number, Snapkin asks about it and tells you how much the answer matters. You can tap an answer or tap "I do not know" and still get an estimate.
When your answers show a habit, Snapkin turns it into one sentence you can read and delete. After a few weeks, your usual food gets logged without questions.
Two widget sizes on iPhone and Android keep the protein ring visible every time you pick up your phone. It updates when the app has your meal, not on a timer.
On a typical meal, Snapkin was within 17% of a kitchen scale.
That figure comes from testing against 500 weighed meals, and every ingredient shows what the app assumed so you can check it yourself. Just as importantly, the app treats protein as a minimum to reach rather than a limit to stay under — going over on protein is good news, not a warning. It also works without signal, holding your photo on the phone until the next time you open the app with a connection.
You want calorie and protein tracking that fits around a real meal rather than a kitchen scale, and you would rather answer one well-chosen question than weigh every ingredient. It is also worth a look if you want your weight to arrive on its own from Apple Health or Health Connect, with nothing to type and no account to link.
